Deciding to start orthodontic treatment is stressful enough as it is. With traditional braces, it is even more of a hassle with the unpleasant metal wires and brackets that are visible. Not to mention the discomfort that comes with it. We understand that not everyone has a clear idea of what clear aligners offer hence below are some key considerations for reference.<\/br><\/br><\/br><\/p>\n
1) Eligibility<\/strong><\/br><\/br><\/p>\n You\u2019re all pumped up and excited to get clear aligners because finally there is a way to get straighter teeth without the whole world knowing and without ripping your wallets apart. That\u2019s great and we are excited for you too but before diving in, you would need to have your suitability to be assessed. Clear aligners are only suitable for mild to moderate cases hence, you\u2019ll have to contact us to check on your eligibility.<\/br><\/br><\/br><\/p>\n 2) Commitment\u00a0<\/strong><\/br><\/br><\/p>\n In order to achieve your brand new smile, some commitment on your part would be necessary. The bulk of it is the amount of time you spend wearing the aligners. Clear aligners are meant to be worn for 20-22 hours each day hence you\u2019ll have to get used to having something in your mouth. That being said, it still offers more comfort than traditional braces.<\/br><\/br><\/br><\/p>\n 3) Mealtime<\/strong><\/br><\/br><\/p>\n As mentioned above, your aligners are to be worn for 20 – 22 hours a day minimum. The rest of the hours which you aren\u2019t wearing are for mealtimes. It may seem like a hassle initially but you\u2019ll soon get the hang of wearing and removing them that it would be like second nature to you. Not to worry, you can still drink water with them, just not hot water.<\/br><\/br><\/br><\/p>\n 4) Oral Health<\/strong><\/br><\/br><\/p>\n It is imperative to keep your oral health at an optimum even without undergoing orthodontic treatment. Whilst on clear aligners, you will have to make an effort to give your mouth a good rinse after each meal. Also, take note to brush and floss your teeth rigorously for the daily recommended two times.<\/br><\/br><\/br><\/p>\n 5) Dental Procedures<\/strong><\/br><\/br><\/p>\n As much as there are some that do not require extra procedures done before getting fitted with aligners, there are a number of people who still require additional services. It may be required of you to receive IPR (interproximal reduction), attachments or even extractions. If our orthodontist deems it necessary for you to receive such procedures, do know it is for you to achieve the best possible outcome. We all want you to smile your brightest.<\/br><\/br><\/br><\/p>\n 6) Adjustment Period<\/strong><\/br><\/br><\/p>\n Wearing the clear aligners may take some getting used to. Initially, you may develop a lisp or sound weird when speaking. Not to worry as these are normal occurrences and they\u2019ll be gone before you know it. During your treatment, you may also feel as if your bite is different. It is perfectly normal as your teeth are shifting into their new positions.<\/br><\/br><\/br><\/p>\n 7) Retainers<\/strong><\/br><\/br><\/p>\n The most common question is whether retainers must be worn. YES THEY MUST. In order to prevent your teeth from shifting again, retainers are used to keep them in their new positions. Prevention is better than cure.
