Dental Filling

Dental fillings are essential for restoring damaged teeth affected by decay, abrasion, or acid erosion. They help close cavities with filling materials to prevent bacteria from entering the tooth and to avoid further decay in the future. At Dr Clear Aligners, we first clean the decayed tooth area and then place the cavity with filling materials. There are two types of filling materials available: amalgam fillings (silver) and composite resins (tooth-colored).

Amalgam Filling (Silver)

Amalgam fillings are resistant to wear and relatively inexpensive. However, their dark color makes them more noticeable than porcelain or composite restorations, so they are not typically used in very visible areas like front teeth.

Composite Resins (Tooth-Colored)

For a more natural appearance, composite resins are an excellent choice. These tooth-colored restorations are made from a blend of materials that are matched to the color of your teeth. Composite resins are placed directly into the cavity and harden to create a durable restoration. However, they may not be the ideal material for large fillings as they can chip or wear over time. Composite resins can also become stained from coffee, tea, or tobacco, and may not last as long as other types of fillings, generally lasting between three to 10 years.
